DILETTA TDR 200
The Reader for Machine Readable Travel Documents
The DILETTA TDR 200 Reader quickly and accurately processes Machine Readable Travel Documents (MRTD) of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Standards.
- High performance
The DILETTA TDR 200 Reader was developed especially for high reading performance combined with reliability and durability.
- Compact and efficient
Ideal for modern applications thanks to compact modular design, low weight and high reliability. DILETTA's many years of experience and state-of-the-art image-processing technology guarantee cost-effective performance.
- Lay-on type
The user simply puts the machine-readable travel document on the glass surface of the reader. The machine-readable zone (MRZ) is transmitted within seconds.
- Integrated reader for simple installation
The reader can be connected directly via the RS-232-C interface with either your PC or your terminal.
Machine Readable Passport for a "boundless" world
The high international travel volume can be dated back to 1960 when the first high-volume aircraft was produced. Until now nearly all border controls have been carried out manually and visually.
Thus it is not surprising that the growth of passenger traffic has led to an overloading of passport control facilities.
In order to increase input and output speeds, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has developed a standard for machine-readable travel documents (MRTD). In 1980 the ICAO issued guidelines for the design and use of MRP's for its member states. (ICAO Document 9304, 1980 Edition and ISO/DIS 7501, 1983 Edition).
Illustration 1 shows the layout of a machine-readable passport (MRP).
Why MRP control is essential
The issue of MRP's alone is not sufficient to modernize antiquated border controls. The benefits of an MRP can only be achieved by using MRP control systems at the border points. The key component in every control system is the MRP reader.
A control system with a fast, high-precision MRP reader enables:
- efficient and effective border controls
- faster control of visitors
- safety controls for airlines
- improved recognition of forged passports
Illustration 2 shows a typical manual passport system.
The border official uses a keyboard to input passport data manually. The databank shown usually is an immigration control or safety databank. The MRP reader can be connected via the standardized RS-232-C interface with the manual control system in illustration 2.
Illustration 3 shows the automatic MRP control system.
The MRP reader was developed for connection with the customer's conventional standard terminal or personal computer.
The existing work station then shows the MRP data, results of security data and unrecognized data.
The DILETTA TDR 200 uses a highly developed image processing system and high-speed OCR algorithms. These technologies enable:
- the reading of machine-readable passports and identity cards (two or three lines)
- faster reading and far greater accuracy than traditional OCR methods
- reading of diagonal lines, e.g. on visas which have been glued into the passport.
The reader can be connected with any work station or PC. If the customer desires, the reader can also be sunk into a table top.
- Line sensor
- Infrared LED
- Automatic/manual switch
- Recognition unit
The image processing unit scans the document. It is illuminated by absolutely non-reflecting infrared light. Infrared scanning also provides one criterium for testing if the document is genuine: forgeries in the MRZ are recognized without any problem. The information gained from the video image are evaluated by the recognition unit in the reader. From this video image the relevant OCR data is recognized with a very high degree of accuracy and is transmitted via the RS-232-C interface to the work station.
You do not need any separate "black box", no recognition card, no special software.
Laying the ICAO document on the glass of the TDR 200 triggers the scanning procedure. The ergonomic construction of the device guarantees that the document is correctly placed.
Recognition is completed in the shortest possible time and the data read is transmitted to the work station.
Control in seconds
Only about 2 seconds are required for scanning, text recognition, data transmission and monitor display.
The DILETTA TDR 200 is the way to perfect border control. DILETTA offers you the TDR 200 reader as an individual unit or in combination with a work station adjusted to customer requirements.
